Ford favourability foils me
Richard Aucock writes:
Panic flashed through me. This ‘ere Ford Fiesta test car I was standing next to, whose key I was furiously pressing - it wouldn’t open! Miles away from home, snow starting to fall, stress levels rocketed. Why wouldn’t it let me in?
Then, out the corner of my eye, I noticed something flashing as furiously as I was pressing the keyfob. A Ford Fiesta. A green Ford Fiesta. You’ve got it…
I was trying to get into the wrong car!
Above, see, is ‘my’ car. And before you leap on me and say something like ‘idiot journo’, consider my defence:
The colour was identical. The Zetec spec was identical. The door count was identical. Both registration letters, for heaven’s sake, were preceded by to what journos is (usually) always a Ford Press Office ‘E’!
Yup, two, E-reg green Ford Fiesta Zetec 5-doors parked in a similar space on the same day in a car park in Letchworth.
I know Ford’s Fiesta was the nation’s best-selling car last year, by some margin. But, really? While it doesn’t take much to confuse motoring journos, you must admit, this really was quite something…
